The short version

01

Who is responsible

MyLittleGossip is published by Zaphod Consulting BV, registered with the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce under number 66605377, where the registered address can be found.

For anything in this policy, including requests about your data, write to christine@christine.nl.

02

What stays on your phone

The app keeps a knowledge database on the device itself. It holds every sentence you type to an agent, broken down into the words, concepts and relationships the agents reason with. None of it is uploaded in the ordinary course of using the app.

Also stored locally: your name and email address as you entered them, your account identifier and certificate, and your agents with their names, pictures and histories.

Uninstalling the app removes all of this from the phone.

03

What we hold on the server

When the app first runs it registers with our server at gossipserver.loqli.com and sends:

We keep this so your agents can be routed home and so you can recover them if you lose or replace your phone. The email address is used for verification and recovery, and is not used for marketing.

04

What travels with an agent

Read this part

An agent is not just a picture that moves. When you send one out, it is packaged up and sent to our server, and from there it may travel to another person's phone. Travelling with it are the sentences it carries, its conversation history, its name, its status line, its picture and the identifier of the account it belongs to.

That means things you have told your agents can end up being read by, and repeated to, people you do not know. Agents that visit your phone likewise bring what they have learned elsewhere. This is what the app is for, but it is worth being clear about: treat anything you say to an agent as something that may become public.

If you would rather your agents stayed put, turn off Agents may leave in Settings.

05

Analysis happens on your phone

The app works out the grammar of what you type using language models that ship inside the app and run on the device. Your sentences are not sent anywhere to be analysed.

06

Other services the app contacts

ServiceWhenWhat it learns
en.wikipedia.org
en.wiktionary.org
When an agent meets a word it does not know and looks it up. Wikimedia receives the request, including the word being looked up and your IP address, under its own privacy policy.
Email delivery When we send a verification or recovery code. Your email address passes through our mail relay to reach you.
Google Play Installing and updating the app. Google's own terms apply to the store; the app itself contains no Google analytics, advertising or Firebase components.
07

Permissions, and why

The app does not ask for your location, your contacts, your camera or your microphone. The microphone symbol on screen opens a box to type in; it does not record audio.

08

Keeping it safe

Traffic between the app and the server runs over TLS. Every agent is cryptographically signed, so a device can tell whether an arriving agent really is what it claims to be and has not been altered on the way.

09

How long we keep things, and how to be forgotten

Your account record and your agents stay on the server while your account exists, so that travelling agents can still be delivered and recovered. We keep no archive beyond that: an account that has been deleted leaves nothing behind.

To have your account and everything attached to it deleted, write to christine@christine.nl. We act on a verified request within 30 days.

10

Children

MyLittleGossip is for people of 16 and over. Because agents carry what they are told to other people's phones, the app is not suitable for small children without an adult alongside.

11

Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to see the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, and to object to our processing it. Write to christine@christine.nl and we will answer within one month.

You may also complain to your national data protection authority. In the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

12

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app.
